When we say locksmith, most of us tend to remember them as people who duplicates keys for our convenience and sells you different kinds of locks. This is true for all locksmiths but they are more than just that. 

History: Locksmiths is a craft itself that started in the early 1900’s. During the middle ages, locksmiths was nothing more than a past time for blacksmiths. They try to make clockwork devices and metal work designs for jewelry boxes for the rich and royalty. Most of their working time is spent on making weapons, armor and horseshoes for knights.  It wasn’t until 1930’s when the trade started to improve because of the rising crime, locks needed to become more complex to prevent unnecessary unlocking. In the 1940’s the improvement of locks started to halt because most of the men are focused with the war. The few that remained passed their knowledge to their family for the next generation. 

How to become one: Becoming a Locksmith differs from every country and place but most of the time apprenticeship or trainees is a way to be one. You must first contact a master locksmith who will employ you as a trainee. You can also become one by finishing a degree in locksmiths in the school of engineering and taking on subjects and courses about this trade.

What they do: Locksmiths are the number one consultant when it comes to home security. In order to become effective in this trade, locksmiths are needed to see the vulnerable spots that need to be secured and make an advice about this. This is done by trying an imaginary break-in and by doing this, places that can somewhat be an entry for intruding are reinforced with security measures and devices.  This consultations may not come free but don’t be frugal when it comes to home security. It’s a job fit for a movie: A normal person might think that being a locksmith is a boring job but it is definitely not. The life of a locksmith is full of action, suspense, mystery, horror and love. There is action when they have a call about a person locking him/herself out at past midnight and they need to be on the site within 20 minutes. It feels like the life of that person hangs in their hands and keeping him/her out longer will endanger that person’s life. They feel suspense when a landlord will call to unlock a door because the tenant has been missing for quite a long time. All the locksmith can do is pray that there is no dead body inside the house or room and it turns into horror when there is. Mystery is always the case when a consultation about the security level of the premises is asked. They become Sherlock Holmes trying to solve what needs to be done and what needs improvement. Love is always present towards the life they can protect through their work and their customers.

There is a saying that the simplest things are the ones that are the most complex. This can be said true about locksmiths. They are usually underrated but they don’t care as long as they can serve, help and protect people’s lives through their craft and workmanship.

Are security devices the only thing we need for home safety?

  From state of the art to common security devices and tools we currently have today, most people tend to rely all their safety well being through these devices. The question remains, is doing this enough to keep our loved ones and home safe from danger? The answer to this question is a big “No”. If you find your self alone in the house without a family member, invite close friends or relatives to stay over. If you are living alone for quite sometime, it is a good idea to have a dog inside the house. You may end up having more things to do like walking your dog and taking it for baths, however there are more benefits to reap from this. Dogs can relieve mental stress and the thought that someone is eagerly waiting for you to go home is really sweet. Mans best friend will love you when no one else will and defend you even at the cost of their life. Have a dog and you won't be disappointed.

  

           Always leave a message to a family member or a close friend of who you are with at the moment. This applies most if you're a woman hanging out with people whom you have just known, may it be that you are at your own premises or elsewhere. You can't be too sure because accidents do happen and when it does at least there are people that can be questioned about the incident. Always give the benefit of the doubt, never give your trust so easily because we live in a cruel world.

          A tool can only be effective if used in a proper way and a soldier going to war without a weapon is a dead man. With these in mind, it is a must that the two must work hand in hand.
