Tips To Avoid Burglary

Safety had become an issue these past few days and it has been rampant and police are somehow having problems in fixing them. So before everything gets worse and more complicated, here’s a list of things that owners should do to protect their homes.

Strengthen your Sliding Glass Doors – Since it is vulnerable for break ins, glass doors are often picked-resistant. Most burglars are amateurs, but some of them are experts. So this would give them enough time to study your house and make it a training ground. So better strengthen your glass doors for your own convenience.

Always check your locks – Every item of locks could malfunction and putting too much confidence on such object may lead to disappointment. Check your locks regularly and make sure that they are functioning properly so you could replace them if necessary.

Leave lights on – If you happen to plan a long week of vacation, you could leave your lights on for the whole week. It is one way of keeping away burglars from your home so it wouldn’t give them an idea that the house was empty. You can also attach automatic timers that could turn it on and off during the day. You can also upgrade your lighting system  for a maximum outdoor security.

Avoid leaving keys on your doormat – One of the most common mistakes of the house owners are tempting the burglars to break in. Always secure your keys in your purse or wallet or try a key chain to compile them. Make a duplicated copy of the keys and segregate it to the members of the house for easy access.

Always activate your alarm systems – Alarms won’t work if it’s not activated. Common misconception of house owners is forgetting to set it up and buying the system form a not so trustworthy shops. It could be an expensive thing to buy, but it will be worth it.

Hide your valuable things in an obvious place – Burglars nowadays would encounter difficulties on big objects so they would prefer small things like jewelries, laptops, cash, cell phones, and etc. Since these objects are easily kept inside a drawer, vault, and tables, you could hide your items in a much obvious place that burglars wouldn’t think you’d hide it. Examples are kitchen cabinets, broom closet, basement, and attic.

Install deadbolt – Many locksmiths would advise this to you. This lock would give you extensive support when it comes to burglary. Deadbolts are often hard to break by pins of thin metal for it holds a solid lock form the inside of your house.

Practice locking everything every five minutes – recklessness can cause a lot of trouble, so better start changing the habit of setting things aside. Practice locking your doors and windows. Lock it when you go to bed, when you visit a neighbor, when you plan on going away, just lock everything.

Spend much on security – Instead of paying landscapers a lot of money to give beauty to your lawn, spend it wisely for security purposes. Do not compromise or think about the cost of an effective alarm system. The much money you spend on your alarms, the safer you get.
